1.Is the university approved by DEC, UGC or AICTE?
Ans: Yes ! the university is approved for offering distance education programs both by DEC, UGC. The copies of the approval letters of these organizations are displayed in the website of KSOU(ksou.ac.in). The AICTE perse does not offer approval to distance education programs including Engineering and Management programs. As a policy the AICTE does not offer approval to the distance education programs including Engineering and Management programs, although it does not mean that these programs are not recognized by the other agencies. The KSOU is a university formed by an Act of state legislature of the Karnataka government.
2.Is the KSOU a private or Government organization?
Ans:As stated in the previous answer the university is formed by the government by an Act of state legislature. It is not a private university.
3.Are the degrees [UG / PG] awarded by the university considered for State or Central government jobs?
Ans: Definitely ! being an university formed by the state government all the degrees awarded by it are recognized for all jobs, infact the UGC and AIU(Association of Indian University) have issued categorical statements that the degrees offered by the open universities approved by the distance education council are recognized qualifications and qualified for the government jobs.
4.What are the programs offered by the universities with which SVT is associated?
Ans:We are providing below the details of the major areas of programs offered by the 3 different universities with which SVT is associated.
5.What are the eligibility criteria for different courses?
Ans: In general a pass in the higher secondary class or its equivalent makes a student eligible for an Under graduate program of the university. In the case of Engineering courses, if a student hold a Diploma qualification, he may be admitted to the corresponding B.Tech branch in the 3rd semester of the program. This type of admission is known as Lateral entry.(for details of eligibility criteria for different programs you may refer to Eligibility Criteria)
For Post Graduate programs a student must have Under graduate degree in the same discipline. If any change in the discipline is required he may have to write an examination in the postgraduate preparatory programs conducted by the university.
6.What will be the fees Structure for the various programs?
Ans: Please click on Fees Structure for Different Programs for details of fees structure for any given program. The fee structure is in conformity with the recommendations of the University. We are prescribed neither less nor more fees than the ones recommended by the university.
7.Where will be the university examinations be held at the end of the semesters?
Ans: The semester or term end examinations will be held as specified by SVT and approved by the University. In general the study centers will be the examination centers. These examination center spread all over India. One of the requirements of the university is that an examination center should have a minimum of 20 students. If the number is less than 20 the students may have to move away from the study center and go to a nearby examination center.
8.Please provide the study center address with phone Numbers for seeking admission to a program?
Ans:Please click on List of Study centers of SVT. All our study centers in different states of India are listed there. You may contact any one of them for your admission.
9.What will be mode of payment of fees for the program?
Ans:It is advised that the fees should be paid only by crossed Demand Draft(DD) from a nationalized bank drawn in favour of “Sharada Vikas Trust payable at Bangalore”. Fees in any other form is not acceptable.
10.Can the fees be paid in installments? Can the fee of all semesters be paid in one installment?
Ans:I. No ! the fee for every semester can be paid only in one installment. Payment by 2 or more installments is not permitted.
II. No ! the fee for every semester can be paid only at the beginning of the semester. Fees for more than one semester is not accepted.
11.What is meant by ‘Dual Specialization’ in MBA program?
Ans: In general an MBA student completes his program specializing in any one of the areas such as Marketing or Operations or Finance or Human Resources Development so on and so forth. But the dual specialization scheme introduced by KSOU enables a student to specialize in 2 related areas such as Marketing and Finance, HR and Operations, Marketing and International Business and similar such combinations. In the second year of the MBA program one semester is spent on specializing in one area and the other semester in a different area accounting for dual specialization.
12.Will the study material be provided immediately after the student is admitted into a program or will there be a delay?
Ans:Generally the course materials are provided within 15 days after the admission is over only under extraordinary circumstances there may be a slight delay in making the course material available.
13.Where will the counseling classes be held and will the Time Table will be provide for the counseling sessions?
Ans: In general the counseling sessions will be held in the respective study centers and it is the duty of the study center coordinator to make proper arrangements for the conduct of the counseling sessions. In Bangalore the counseling classes will be held at “Sharada Vikas Technology and Management Studies” at Garvebhavipalya(near Bommanahalli) Bangalore. The students admitted by the various study centers in Bangalore are welcome to join the counseling sessions at this center.
14.Can we sit for the exams of courses of 2 or 3 semesters together?
Ans: No ! the duration of the semester is limited and in that limited duration on can study the courses prescribed for that semester only. No one is permitted to pay the fees for 2 semesters together nor write the exam of the courses of the 2 semesters together.
15.What is the distribution of questions and marks in a question paper of 3 hour duration?
Ans: In general the question paper will have 3 parts :
1. Part A will carry objective type of questions and account for 10 marks. There will be 5 questions each of 1 mark and generally there will be no choice.
2. Part B generally it contains questions for paragraph answers of one page each not exceeding 250 words. There will be a limited choice and you may asked to answer 5 out of 6 questions. Each question may carry 6 marks each and the section perse will carry 30 marks.
3. Part C generally requires essay type of answers. Again the choice will be limited and you may asked to answer 4 out 5 questions. Each question is required to be answered in not less than 1000 words or 4 to 5 pages and each question may carry 10 marks. Thus section C account 40 marks. The total marks for the question paper is 75 the remaining 25 marks are allotted for internal assessment based on assignment responses.
16.When will the practical classes be held and where?
Ans: The practical classes will be held either just prior to the term end theory examinations or immediately after the theory examinations. The practical examinations will immediately follow the practical classes. The suitable announcement will be made on our website. The venue of the practical sessions will also be announced just prior to the practical examinations.
The study centers outside Bangalore will conduct their own practical classes and examinations at the suitable venues.
17.Are the practical Questions and their Answers are provided in the Website?
Ans: Yes ! the questions for the various lab coursed in each semester are provided in the website along with their answers.
18.Are the assignments questions hosted in the website? Also weather the submission dates and procedures for attending the questions are provided in the website?
Ans: Assignments to be answered and evaluated for the purpose assigning internal assignments marks will be hosted in the website(for the current cycle all assignments will appear in the website in the first week of febrauary 2013. The submission date will be clearly mentioned under each assignment. Since the assignments to be answered are choosen from the course materials the student could refer to the course materials for answering the assignments.
19.How will the students know their enrollment numbers after new registration?
Ans: Essentially the register themselves for a particular program in a specific study center. As and when the registration of the student is done, simultaneously the study centers are informed online the confirmation of registration as well as the enrollment numbers. For this purpose the study centers are provided with center specific login Id and password, using which the centers could get access to the details of registration of their students.
20.What will be the last date for admissions and re-registration without & with Penal fee?
Ans: The last date is usually announced in the website as well as in the prospectus. This may vary from semester to semester.
21.What are the documents to be submitted along with the application form for admission?
Ans: The application should be accompanied with a
1) Demand Draft (DD) drawn in favour of Sharada Vikas Trust , Bangalore
2) A copy of the SSLC certificate for authenticating the Date of Birth.
3) Photo copies of appropriate eligibility certificates to confirm that the student posses the required qualification for the program.
4) 3 passport size photographs
22.Where do we get syllabus of the various courses?
Ans:The syllabi for the various course are again hosted in our website www.sharadavikas.com. If you have any problem in locating you can visit your study center and learn the process of browsing and reaching the appropriate site.
23. Are the titles of the reference books are provided under the curriculum for each course?
Ans: Yes ! the reference books are listed at the end of the syllabus for each course. But the books have to be obtained on your own either from the libraries or they could be bought from the shops.
24. Where can we obtain the Calendar of the Events?
Ans:The calendar of Events for each semester is available in our websites. In the case of students who are freshers the prospectus they buy along with the application form contains the calendar of Events for 2 consecutive semesters.
25.Will the Time Table for Exams be available one month prior to the commencement date of the exam?
Ans: The announcement of the exam dates will be 15 days before the commencement date of the exams. Announcement of the date of exams prior to one month before the commencement date will be little difficult as various other factors are to be taken into consideration for the announcement of the date. Generally 2 weeks advance time is sufficient to apply for leave etc., if the students are employed.
26.Will SMS or Mail alert will be given regarding the notification of the exam date?
Ans: No ! our only means of communication with our students is our website. So it is imperative that the students visit our website as often as possible, at least once in a week. Lack of knowledge of various announcements relating to the various aspects of the program such as dates of counseling sessions, dates of submission of assignments, dates for the submission of application forms with or without penalty or dates of examinations is no excuse for not carrying out our instructions. We intend to announce everything only through the website and students must make it a habit to browse our website and update themselves with all types of informations.
27.Regarding Hall tickets examination center and ID cards.
Ans: Hall tickets : Hall tickets will be issued to you just a week before the examination. They have to be collected by the students from the respective study centers.
• Examination center : Examination centers can be known from the respective study centers at the time of receiving the hall ticket.
• ID cards : As far as ID card is concerned a new procedure will be followed. As soon as the registration of the student is confirmed and his enrollment number is delivered online to the study center it will be the responsibility of the study center to fill in the details in the blank Identity cards provided to them and handover to the students.
28. Can the student change their examination center.?
Ans: Yes ! but only under extraordinary circumstances assuming an employed student is transferred to another state or to another place in the same state but loacated at a distance, transfer of examination center is possible. The student should write to of mail to the head quarters of SVT located in Bangalore requesting for transfer and the reasons there of, but the student must ensure that a study center public examination center exists at the place where he requires the transfer. If study center / exam center does not exist in the required place the student has no option except to write the examination at the same center where he has registered for the course.
29. Can a student change his branch of engineering from Civil to Mechanical or Electrical to Electronics?
Ans: The answer is no. The branch once chosen will be final and under circumstance the student can change from one branch to another.
30.Can the fees once paid be refunded?
Ans: The answer is no. Once a student is admitted to a program by paying the prescribed fees the fees will not be refunded under any circumstances. In other words no plea for the refund of fees will be entertained by the Administration.
