GENERAL EDUCATION
MA –ENGLISH
English is a West Germanic language and originated from the Anglo-Frisian and Old Saxon dialects brought to Britain by Germanic settlers from various parts of what is now northwest Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands in the 5th century. Since English is so widely spoken, it has often been referred to as a "world language", the lingua franca of the modern era. The impact of the English language globally has sometimes had a large impact on other languages, leading to language shift and even language death. English today is probably the third largest language by number of native speakers, after Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.
English has become the language that has given India an edge over countries where English is a foreign language. India has become a resource pool of English – a language whose ascendancy remains unquestioned. English plays an important role in the domains of education, administration, business and political relations, judiciary, industry, etc. and is therefore a passport to social mobility, higher education, and better job opportunities.
In India, where different state languages coexist, English serves as the connector between people speaking different mother tongues. So more than two hundred and fifty years later, the number of Indians who wish to learn and use English is still growing steadily. This shows the demand for the people who have proficiency.

The task of historical discourse is to identify the sources which can most usefully contribute to the production of accurate accounts of past. The study of history has sometimes been classified as part of the humanities and other times as part of the social sciences. It can also be seen as a bridge between those two broad areas, incorporating methodologies from both the sources of historical knowledge can be separated into three categories: what is written, what is said, and what is physically preserved. It is a social science—a term with which it is sometimes synonymous—that uses various methods of empirical investigation and critical analysis to develop and refine a body of knowledge about human social activity, often with the goal of applying such knowledge to the pursuit of social welfare. Subject matter ranges from the micro level of agency and interaction to the macro level of systems and social structures. Sociology is both topically and methodologically a very broad discipline. Its traditional focuses have included social stratification, social mobility, religion, secularization, law, and deviance, while approaches have included both qualitative and quantitative research techniques. As all spheres of human activity are sculpted by social structure and individual agency, sociology has gradually expanded its focus to further subjects, such as medical, military and penal institutions, the Internet, and even the role of social activity in the development of scientific knowledge.

Master of Arts-Social Work
No doubt, we are a developing nation. Our growth rate in terms of GDP is a criterion to measure the growth. The heads of the country participate in various forums to discuss about the growth and holistic development of the country. The growth and development can not happen on paper. While we look back, we have hardly any one representing the global agencies like UN, UNESCO, WHO, and similar such bodies which constantly thrive for the growth. It is only one person to find is Mr. Shashi Tarur the elected personality and has been given the reasonability of external affairs in the Central Government.
We have pool of intelligent migrating to other countries. In spite of that we hardly find any single person in a year entering into the UN and related organizations to represent the country. It is the right time to awake and redefine the social work / development work perspective. Today this is limited to so called Non Governmental Organizations. To fill the gap, the basic requirement is to see the growth of the country not from the top but from the the bottom line of beaurocratic system.
To make this happen we need a different stream of people who can implement the developmental programs in a professional and effective manner. The people with special skills can be formed by the program / course in social work. The emphasis should be on encouraging the young minds to explore the possibility of entering into international bodies and see through them and develop a growth perspective. We do have handfull people who dared to walk a different path, but the point remains we need just more than handfull of these people to break the stereotypes attached till date with a job in the social sector. Hence MSW is a promising course to persue.
